German Man Finds his Grandfather’s Message in a Bottle

Peter Brandt, a roofer in Goslar, Germany, was conducting maintenance on the town’s cathedral when he made an incredible discovery: An 88 year old message in a bottle. But this was not just any message from a distant stranger. This was Peter Brandt’s own grandfather’s message in a bottle. Willi Brandt signed the message on March 26th, 1930, and it remained hidden in the cathedral’s roof for 88 years, according to The Local Germany.

Message in a Bottle from Hamburg Solved with Help from BILD

It has been a great week! First, I connected with 8-year-old Lily from Fort Lauderdale whose message in a bottle I found back in 2015. And now, we have solved the 23-year-old message in a bottle from Hamburg that my brother found, sent by a woman named Gerda! That’s thanks to BILD reporter Franziska Ringleben who used some magical reporter tricks to research the name on Evan’s note and solve this mysterious message in a bottle from Hamburg. We are so lucky to have this hobby! Continue reading →

A Fragile Message in a Bottle

As I mentioned in my post on Message in a Bottle Day 2017, my brother, Evan, found this message in a bottle back in 2015 when we were on a family adventure together.

German Message in a Bottle Found

I found this message in a bottle in 2015 and have been dying to open it ever since. Of course, I had no idea it was a German message in a bottle at the time. The message was a little scroll caked in something that looked pretty gloopy and dubious…

Flaschenpost Found!

Y’all have helped me solve some incredible mysteries. Like the 46 year old note from “Donkeyman” Jimmy Robertson, and the 7 year old message in a bottle from Sabine of Dusseldorf, Germany. Couldn’t have solved those without your help! Well, I need your help again. We’re gonna solve a “cold case” this time–a message in a bottle found by Stefanie Padilla on Hermosa Beach, CA,  in 2013. In fact, she found EIGHT messages inside one bottle, all from German-speaking folks. In German, a message in a bottle is called a “Flaschenpost,” which just means “bottle mail”. Isn’t that great?

My friends, we have a mystery to solve!

On January 12th, 2017, Nomo Online published a brief article–just a wee little paragraph–about a man named Bernd Igwerks who had just found a message in a bottle sent in 1970.
